The Crankworx announced the upcoming Crankworx World Tour 2022 in February this year. The Crankworx World Tour is a sequence of mountain bike festivals.

Crankworx brings together top mountain bikers for an elite-level competition in various disciplines. The festival began in 2004 in Whistler and has since expanded into one of the most significant mountain-biking events.

Crankworx has built a reputation as the definitive experience in mountain bike competitions. The MTB pros get to ride with the best in each discipline, and an amateur can ride the same tracks with the best of the best.

The World Tour festival also has amateur races, a CWNEXT athlete category, Kidsworkx for younger riders, and a celebration of the mountain biking culture while exhibiting scenic destinations. The CWNEXT includes categories for both genders, aged 13 to 14, 15 to 16, and 17 to 18. This category runs alongside the adult Crankworx events.

This year’s festival has four stops, returning to its iconic origin-Whistler, Canada. The pandemic meant that the event could not take place for two years. The regular Rotorua and Innsbruck locations are on the calendar, with the fourth stop at a site Crankworx is yet to reveal.

When and Where Will the 2022 Stop?

June 15th-19th 2022 – Crankworx Innsbruck, Austria

Innsbruck is home to Robin Goome, who performed the first-ever backflip, and Kaos Seagraves whip. This is the only European stop on the Crankworx and includes the FMBA Slopestyle World Championship and the King and Queen of Crankworx. Innsbruck has an eclectic mix of city and urban vibes, and it’s an excellent location to gather the top names in mountain biking.

August 5th-14th 2022- Crankworx Whistler, Canada

In 2019, Whistler hosted the largest race in the Enduro World Series with 675 riders. Since then, Emil Johansson got his first gold in Slopestyle at the Red Bull Joyride and has since won every Crankworx competition.

October 5th-9th- Crankworx (To-be-announced)

Crankworx will announce this location soon, but it will be an exciting location.

November 5th-13th- Crankworx Rotorua

Rotorua in 2021 was where Billy Meaclem made a comeback to the Crankworx competition. Jenna Hastings had her first international pro-W, and Emil Johansson won the Triple Slopestyle Crown. In one year, the rider must win three Lopestyle events in the same year to deserve the crown. The winner of the crown takes home $25,000.

We look forward to an even more significant event this year. This tour will be Crankworx Rotorua’s 8th year and the festival’s final stop. The crowning of the Crankworx King and Queen also happens here, and they get the Tewhatewha (a Maorian ceremonial weapon with a long handle). Redbull TV will air the event live at the locations.

The Mountain Bike Event at a Crankworx World Tour Stop

The events differ as per the location, but there will be pro competitions in:

For winning and podiuming events, winners get prize money. To encourage participation from pro-athletes across all the stops and disciplines, Crankworx has a King and Queen Competition each year. The King and Queen race is the most challenging competition in mountain biking and tests the riders’ skill and strong will.

The riders that earn the most points in the entire tour take home a CAD 20,000 cheque and get the King and Queen title. The second-place riders (male and female) get CAD 10,000, and the third-place rider gets CAD 5,000.

While attending the Crankworx competition, you need a place to go back to after a long day at the tracks. Whether riding or spectating, Aloha Whistler offers you the perfect place to call home for the first few days of the competition.

In the SKI magazine’s 26th annual survey, 20000+ readers voted The Whistler Blackcomb as the number one Ski Resort in North America. Contact us to book now to avoid any inconveniences during the Crankworx upcoming competition
